Your place to reduce credit card debt
If you asked one hundred people what their top priority is right now in their lives, chances are a fair amount of them would say their main goal is to eliminate credit card debt. Credit card debt weighs heavily on the minds of many Americans. Once you get behind on a debt payment to your credit card payment, either because you find at the end of the month you have less spending money than you'd anticipated, or because you spent more on your card than you'd been planning on, that means that you will be forced to pay a late fee. Then late fees can add up and become a financial burden all their own. In fact, credit card companies are only able to stay in business because so many of their customers routinely pay these late fees. (What would credit card companies do if everyone paid on time?) And not only are there late fees to worry about, but some credit card companies increase their interest rates arbitrarily at times. An interest rate as high as thirty percent isn't even uncommon these days!
However, given all of these facts, it's not impossible to eliminate credit card debt, and eliminate it fairly quickly. The first thing you have to do is stop using your card so much. If that means buying cheaper groceries, if that means going out to eat less and making peanut butter sandwiches for lunch more often, if that means buying fewer birthdays and Christmas cards...whatever it means, DO IT! A great way to eliminate credit card debt is to get in the bait of paying cash. Pay cash whenever you can, wherever you can. Whip out that credit card as a last resort only.
You can also eliminate credit card debt by being careful to find those companies with the lowest interest rates. And if you're really behind on your payments, you can turn to a debt management company. They won't eliminate credit card debt per se, but they will be able to negotiate a lower monthly rate for you so that sometime down the road you will be able to get rid of that debt yourself.
